Steel and Wooden Fire Door Installation Methods

Fire-resistant doors are categorized by material:Steel Fire DoorThe two types of fire doors, wooden fire-resistant doors and the other type, have some minor differences in installation methods. There are also slight variations in their fire ratings. Everyone should pay close attention to details during installation.

Firstly, when installing wooden fire doors, the door frame size should be 20mm smaller than the opening, and the bottom of the door frame should be embedded 20mm below the ground. The door frame should be securely fastened to the wall and maintain a perpendicular angle. Pay close attention to the straightness and right angles of the upright and cross supports to avoid sawing. There should be at least 3 fixed points on both sides of the door frame, with an optimal spacing not exceeding 800mm.

Secondly, during the installation of steel fire doors, to address the issue of frame bending and deformation, wooden battens should be used to support the frame width. The bottom of the frame should be buried 20mm below the ground, followed by welding the frame to the pre-bolted components on the wall. Next, a hole is drilled in the wall at the top corner of the frame, and concrete mixed with cement, sand, and expanded perlite (1:2:5) is poured in. After the concrete sets, the door can be used.

Fire doors must meet the requirement of airtightness.

National standards specify clear requirements for the gap sizes at the joints of fire doors: for steel fire doors, the overlap between the door leaf and frame must not be less than 10mm, and the gaps on both sides between the door leaf and frame must not exceed 4mm. After the installation is complete, the gaps of the fire door cannot be too large, otherwise, the door's sealing performance cannot be guaranteed, and its role in mitigating fire and smoke spread under fire conditions cannot be effectively demonstrated.

Therefore, the gap width for fire door installation must be strictly controlled. Installation according to these standard specifications can ensure the effective function of the fire door to some extent. Consumers must supervise on-site when hiring construction units to prevent issues such as cutting corners. This is to ensure that fire doors do not cause casualties during fires.
