    How to Clean a Condenser after Scale Build-Up?

    The carbonate scale that accumulates on the condenser's water side is easily dissolved in acid, producing a large amount of CO2 during the reaction. Since the condenser's heat exchange tubes are horizontally arranged, the generated CO2 gas often remains trapped in the upper part of the tubes due to the low flow rate of the cleaning fluid inside. This affects the contact between the cleaning fluid and the scale on the upper side of the tubes. Therefore, when cleaning the condenser, the scale on the lower side of the tubes is easy to clean, while the scale on the upper side is not as easy to remove. Consequently, when selecting a cleaning pump, the pump's output should ensure that the flow rate of the cleaning fluid inside the tubes is greater than 0.15 m/s.

    Condenser Acid Cleaning Preparations: The time required for disassembling and assembling the condenser end cover and replacing tubes should be included in the unit maintenance plan; prepare a sufficient number of tubes and pipe plugs for immediate use; for severely leaking condensers, reinforce the base support, and before acid cleaning, the steam side should be initially filled with water, and a good-soluble, easily cleaned acid cleaning inhibitor should be added to prevent contamination of the steam side material in the condenser.

    The cleaning of condensers typically employs physical mechanical high-pressure water jetting, which offers the advantage of protecting equipment from corrosion while utilizing clean water as the medium.High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental protection, ease of operation, and safety.

    High-pressure water jet cleaning technology is a reliable, cost-effective cleaning method. Compared to chemical cleaning, the following advantages can be observed with high-pressure water technology.

    (1) Excellent Cleaning Quality: The high-pressure water jet cleaning for pipes and heat exchanger bores can thoroughly remove scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal substrate. With its immense energy and supersonic speed, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of destroying tough scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

    Moreover, due to the pressure of the high-pressure water being less than the compressive strength grade of gold, it will not damage the substrate being cleaned.

    (2) Rapid Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined crushing actions of water jet flushing, chisel splitting, shearing, and grinding, scaling can be quickly dislodged and removed, making the cleaning process several to tens of times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening techniques, simple mechanical methods, and manual labor.

    Additionally, parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require a secondary cleaning process; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemical agents must be rinsed off with clean water.

    (3) Environmentally Friendly Cleaning: As high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not produce large amounts of dust like sandblasting, grit blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm human health. Nor does it generate substantial waste liquids like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet, odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic, can also reduce the concentration of air dust in the work area after being atomized, ensuring no pollution is caused.
