Wastewater recycling for reuse is a necessity for many businesses and public entities, primarily for reuse purposes, which is known as reclaimed water. This serves two main purposes: first, it conserves water resources; second, it addresses the water scarcity issue in many parts of our country. Urban wastewater reuse is common, such as for landscaping purposes like watering plants, grass, flowers, and for ground irrigation, as well as for car washing. However, the largest consumption is for industrial circulating cooling water, as seen in cities like Beijing and Shijiazhuang, Hebei, where the application has been effective. It not only prevents the waste of water but also alleviates the water shortage in industrial enterprises, enhancing efficiency and energy savings. Of course, wastewater reuse is also very common in various industrial enterprises, such as coking plants recycling coking wastewater for quenching, steel mills continuously reusing treated water in their cycles, almost no discharge, and saving resources; petrochemical companies recycling treated water back to oil fields, and so on. In recent years, Shandong has experienced a lack of rainfall, leading to severe groundwater shortages. For instance, in Weifang, Shandong, reservoirs have dried up in the past three years. The region is home to numerous protective gloves and textile washing enterprises, which are major water consumers. With a significant increase in export orders in the protective gloves industry over the years, the impact of water scarcity on production has intensified. For example, Shangxiu Gloves faced severe water shortages even when operating at full capacity. The company's efforts to drill over 30 wells within the factory area were insufficient to meet production and washing water needs. In 2015, our company constructed a wastewater treatment system for the gloves production, achieving COD levels between 30-40 after treatment, resulting in very clear effluent. Approximately 6,000 cubic meters of wastewater were discharged daily. Following our recommendations, two ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis systems (reclaimed water systems) were built in 2016 and 2017, removing trace impurities and ionic substances from the treated wastewater, reaching pure water standards. This fully met the water requirements for processes like glove vulcanization, significantly alleviating the company's water supply challenges. Reusing the treated wastewater through this system costs about 2.4 yuan, much cheaper than tap water.
