The development history of the food processing industry is long-standing. The food industry refers to an industrial system characterized by continuous and organized economic activities, primarily involving the manufacture, extraction, and processing of food or semi-finished products from agricultural, fisheries, livestock, forestry, or chemical industrial raw materials or semi-finished goods. With the continuous advancement of science and technology, the modern food industry has developed rapidly, with the scope and depth of food processing expanding, and the utilization of advanced science and technology increasing.

Our food industry started late, with residents primarily consuming direct agricultural products. China's food industry has experienced rapid development, mainly going through three stages.
One, during this phase of steady, gradual growth, China's food industry is in an "import-oriented" state.
China's food industry has been developing slowly at this stage, with low labor productivity across the sector and a heavy reliance on imported technology for production levels. Moreover, the absorption of imported technology is also low. Additionally, it is affected by national development policies that prioritize heavy industry over light industry, leading to insufficient attention to the growth of the food industry.
Section Two: The Awakening Stage of the Food Industry
In 1978, China implemented its reform and opening-up policy, marking a comprehensive revival of the economy. This policy brought opportunities for the food industry's growth and facilitated the introduction of advanced technology. However, due to the industry's "chronic illness" challenges, it failed to experience a rapid surge in development in the initial years of opening. Two years later, the introduction of technology and increased investment in new projects began to take effect. Starting from the 1990s, China's food industry showed signs of awakening, suddenly ascending to a new level of overall development.
Section 3: The Rapid Development Phase of the Food Industry
Entering the 21st century, China has increasingly prioritized the development of the food industry in policy, especially during the "Tenth Five-Year Plan," where there was a significant increase in policy and financial support for technological research and development in the food industry. This has led to a stable and rapid development trend in China's food industry. Since 2003, the growth rate of China's food industry has been significantly higher than the previous stage, with an annual growth rate of 20.44%. On the basis of the existing figures, the annual output value has grown by over 4 trillion yuan each year. In terms of the growth amount of the total output value of the food industry, China's food industry has climbed to a new level of development.
Food is the foundation of the people's lives. With the development of the national economy and the improvement of people's living standards, higher demands have been placed on the food industry. Modern food has evolved towards nutrition, greenness, convenience, and functional foods, with functional foods set to become the mainstream in the new century. The food industry has also become a pillar industry of the national economy, with the food machinery industry, which equips the food industry, experiencing particularly rapid development.
