What is the Coal Safety Certification and Coal Safety Mark?
Coal Mine Safety Sign Certification (also known as Coal Safety Certification or MA Certification) is a mandatory certification implemented by the National Coal Mine Safety Sign Office for products used underground in coal mines. Any product listed in the Coal Mine Product Safety Certification Catalog must obtain a certification certificate.
Products with the Coal Safety Certification can affix the Coal Safety MA mark. No individual or organization is allowed to sell, purchase, or use mining products included in the safety mark management catalog without obtaining the safety mark.
To obtain a safety mark for the production of the product, several steps are required: application form submission, preliminary review and qualification registration, evaluation, and certification issuance.

4 Can imported products apply for the Coal Safety MA mark?
Imported products can also apply for the Coal Safety MA mark. It is divided into two types: one applied for by the importer and the other by foreign manufacturers.
(1) Apply for the MA mark by batch. Importers need to apply for the MA mark for a batch of products, which involves the application process and sampling inspection. After the inspection is completed, there's no need for an on-site audit of the manufacturing facility. Simply inspect the batch of products, and the certificate can be issued directly. However, this certificate is only valid for the imported batch of products and has no expiration date. The advantages include fast certificate issuance and low costs.
(2) Apply for the MA mark for domestically produced products. This involves a series of processes including application, sample testing, on-site assessment, and issuance of certificates. It's important to note that the on-site assessment requires visiting the foreign manufacturer, and all provided documents must be in Chinese. This service is relatively expensive and can take a longer duration.
5. How long is the validity of the Coal Safety MA mark?
Currently, the validity of the general coal safety MA mark is 5 years, and a new certification is required upon expiration. Import products applying for the coal safety mark on a batch-by-batch basis do not have an expiration period; they are only valid for the specific batch of imported products.
6. Do I need a factory audit to apply for the MA mark?
Need.
Different from applying for an explosion-proof certification, the country has strict control over the coal safety mark. To apply for coal safety certification, a factory inspection of the applicant company is required.
Do the coal safety MA marks require annual inspections?
The National Security Sign Management Authority conducts supervision and management of enterprises with the Coal Safety MA Mark annually. Typically, the enterprise is notified the day before the annual supervision and review, with relatively strict requirements.
8 Can the same manufacturing company apply for the Coal Safety MA mark only once across different product categories?
Nope.
In accordance with relevant regulations, even within the same production enterprise, different product categories must be applied for separately with the Coal Safety MA mark, and undergo individual on-site assessments. If the product differences are minor and assessed as fitting within the same category, they may be grouped together as a series of applications for the Coal Safety MA mark.
