What is IECEx certification?
1. IECEx is an acronym for the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) certification system for equipment used in explosive environments, specializing in safety certification for explosion-proof products. Its aim is to eliminate differences in equipment and service use across various countries in flammable and explosive environments, while ensuring the safety level of explosion-proof products. This is achieved by removing the need for redundant inspections and certifications when entering different countries or regions, thus promoting international trade. The current IECEx explosion-proof standards primarily consist of the IEC 60079 and ISO 80079 series.
2. IECEx certificates (CoC) consist of Product Test Reports (ExTR) and Factory Inspection Reports (QAR). The QAR is issued directly by the Ex Certification Body (ExCB), while the ExTR is issued by an Ex Testing Laboratory (ExTL) contracted by the ExCB, which is then reviewed and approved by the ExCB.
In the IECEx system, member countries' ExCBs and ExTLs work together. Companies can hold ExTRs and QARs to apply for a CoC with an ExCB.
What are the benefits of IECEx certification?
1. High global recognition: The IECEx certification is widely recognized by over 30 member countries (such as Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, etc.).
2. Quick Certification Supplement: For a small number of entities that do not accept IECEx certification, only a supplementary differential test report is required, eliminating the need for a full retest. This reduces the manufacturer's certification costs and time to market.
3. International Authority Endorsement: The IECEx mark is nearly globally recognized as a certification for explosion-proof safety, and can be displayed on products, manuals, and promotional materials, enhancing trust in product safety among consumers, buyers, and regulatory authorities.
4. Spread Long-Term Costs: Although initial certification costs are high, they can reduce the need for repeated certifications, accelerate the product launch cycle, and enhance market acceptance, significantly reducing costs over the long term.
5. Public and Transparent Certification Information: All IECEx certificates are available for verification on the official website, offering free international promotion channels for businesses and enhancing brand credibility.
III. Key Components of IECEx Certificate Explanation
1. Certificate No: Certificate Number, uniqueness verified, available for search and download on the IECEx official website.
2. Status: Certificate Status, current or cancelled – indicates whether the certificate is currently valid or has been cancelled.
3. Issue No: 0 indicates the number of times the certificate has been amended, with 0 representing the first issuance, and so on.
4. Date of Issue: The date the certificate becomes effective.
5. Certificate history: This section records all issuance histories and dates of the certificate, facilitating the traceability of any changes to the certificate.
6. Applicant: This section displays the name and address of the certificate applicant. Typically, the applicant is the manufacturer; however, other organizations are also allowed to act as applicants, including OEMs or ODMs.
7. Equipment or Ex Component: This section lists in detail the names, models, and other information of certified equipment or components. For more extensive content, further details can be found in the certificate attachments.
8. Type of Protection: Explosion-Proof Protection Type for Equipment
9. Marking: Explosion-proof equipment marking
10. Approved for issuance on behalf of the lECEx Certification Body: This section displays the authorized issuing personnel representing the certification body.
