Working Principle

Nanofiltration (NF), abbreviated, is a pressure-driven membrane separation process that lies between reverse osmosis (RO) and ultrafiltration. The pore size range of nanofiltration membranes is around several nanometers. Most nanofiltration membranes are derived from reverse osmosis membranes, such as CA, CTA membranes, aromatic polyamide composite membranes, and sulfonated polyether sulfone membranes, etc. However, compared to reverse osmosis, its operating pressure is lower, hence nanofiltration is also referred to as "Low-Pressure RO" or "Loose RO."
