Yttrium oxide
Yttria has the chemical formula Y2O3, CAS No. 1314-36-9, and is a white, slightly yellow crystalline powder. It is insoluble in water and alkalis but soluble in acids and alcohols. Exposed to air, it readily absorbs carbon dioxide and water, leading to deterioration. It is used in the manufacture of incandescent gas lamp shades, color TV phosphors, magnetic material additives, and in the atomic energy industry, among others. Yttria is also known as yttria oxide, yttrium oxide, yttrium(III) oxide, yttria, and yttria sputtering target, etc. It is insoluble in water and alkalis but soluble in acids. One of its uses is as an additive material for phosphors and magnetic materials.
