Woodworking Band Saw

Troubleshooting
Machine tools often encounter common issues during sawing, such as blade breakage, blade dropping, and warped wood being cut out.
(1) During machine tool operation, if there is abnormal forward and backward movement of the saw blade and noises such as cracking, it is likely that the saw blade has a significant crack and should be stopped immediately for inspection. Generally, saw blade breakage is caused by the following reasons:
Saw Machine Issues: ① Saw machine vibration, bearing wear. Reinforce the machine tool, replace the bearings to ensure stability.
② Tension device malfunction, heavy hammer too heavy. Inspect the tension device and adjust the heavy hammer appropriately.
③ The blade surface of the saw wheel is uneven. The rim face should be leveled.
④ Upper and lower saw wheels are twisted, not on the same "vertical plane." Adjust and align the upper and lower saw wheels.
2. Blade Reasons: ①The blade steel is brittle with low toughness. Choose blades with better toughness.
② Small saw wheel, thick blade. Use blades compatible with the saw wheel. Blade thickness = (0.0007-0.001) x saw wheel diameter.
③ Overstretching or under-tensioning. Moderate adjustment of tension.
④ Poor joint, improper trimming. Joint welded securely, trimming done well.
⑤Not sharp teeth, long-term use. Sharpen the teeth, limit the use to two hours.
⑥ The blade has cracks, usable with difficulty. Drill a small hole at the root of the crack to prevent expansion; if it's too large, it should be cut and reconnected.
3. Operation Reason: ① The feeding speed is too fast. The feeding speed should be flexibly controlled according to specific circumstances.
②Overfeeding or not slowing down during holidays. Feeding steadily and slowing down during holidays.
③ Resin on saw blade, sawdust is too thickly adhered. Remove the resin and sawdust promptly.
(Sec) When the blade moves with the saw wheel, it shifts forward and backward or suddenly enters and exits, which is called blade drop. There are several reasons for this:
Adjust the upper wheel.
② The saw blade outer diameter has excessive taper and is uneven. Finish turning and precision grinding, resulting in a flat rim surface.
③ Split wood gets stuck during return, pull it off. Be mindful of wood defects during operation.
④ Heat in band saws, reduced tension, or even complete loss of tension. Clean resin shavings and debris from the saw wheels and blades, and from the saw carriage, and oil frequently.
(S) Reasons for warped wood after sawing include:
Saw Machine Issue: ①Tension device not functioning properly, heavy hammer too light. Generally, repair the tension device and increase the weight of the heavy hammer.
② Saw blade rim face wear, inconsistent diameters front and back, machine the rim face.
2. Blade Reasons: ① Incorrect tooth shape, too small tooth chamber, blade narrow and biased. Correct tooth shape, enlarge tooth chamber, adjust and increase blade width.
② Uneven tension, looser fit; adjust tension.
③ Too many joints, improper trimming. Minimize the number of blade joints as much as possible, or provide special repair for blades with many joints.
3. Operation Reason: ①Inconsistent handovers between the upper and lower hands. The upper and lower hands should be focused and move in unison.
② Saws are too loose or off-center; adjust the saw card properly.
③ Material feeding speed is too fast and uneven. Maintain consistent feeding and slow down during holidays.
④ Resin and sawdust on saw blades and wheels should be cleaned promptly.
⑤The teeth are dull and cannot be used further. The blade is defective; do not force its use.
