It may also be installed in buildings not exclusively for single-family use, serving as a means for that family to access their residence, but the public or other occupants of the building are unable to enter or use it.

Home elevators have a rated speed of no more than 0.4m/s, with those without car doors having a rated speed of no more than 0.3m/s. The car travel distance does not exceed 12m, and the rated load capacity is no more than 400KG. They are mainly categorized into traction elevators, screw elevators, and hydraulic elevators.
