How EDI Works
EDI membranes and reverse osmosis membranes are quite different. Reverse osmosis membranes permit small particle molecules, pollutants, and ions, as well as water, to pass through, while industrial chillers. In contrast, EDI membranes, like ion exchange resins, are made from polyethylene materials and only allow ions with appropriate charges to pass through, with water largely unable to pass. The resins are continuously regenerated through separation in water. In an electric field, water molecules in the feedwater are separated into H+ and OH-, attracting opposite charges. H+ moves towards the cathode through the anion resin, while OH- moves towards the anode through the cation resin. This migration of H+ and OH- regenerates the resins. The anion membrane allows H+ to pass into the concentrate chamber, while the cation membrane allows OH- to pass and also enter the concentrate chamber, combining to form the product water. The self-flow of water in the concentrate chamber carries away the ionic species. The membrane prevents the entry of ions with opposite charges into the freshwater chamber. As the water flows through the freshwater chamber, ions are removed by the resins, resulting in the production of pure water in the effective side (freshwater chamber).

Ultra-pure Water Equipment
1. The pretreatment system consists of quartz sand filters, activated carbon filters, an automatic softener, and precision filters (with our company using an automatic control valve head). An ultrafiltration system can also be chosen for pretreatment, although it typically results in higher construction costs. The primary goal of pretreatment is to remove silt, rust, colloidal matter, suspended particles, color, odor, and biochemical organic substances from the raw water. When the raw water has high hardness, an automatic softener can be selected to effectively protect the reverse osmosis membrane, thereby extending its service life. 2. The reverse osmosis main unit is composed of a high-pressure pump, membrane housing, imported reverse osmosis membrane modules, chilled water pump, online instruments, and control electrical equipment. As long as the correct number of membranes and pump models are selected, the reverse osmosis main unit can achieve the rated salt rejection rate and water production. The electrical conductivity of the output water can be guaranteed to be ≤10 μS/cm (with the original water conductivity less than 500 μS/cm, operating temperature: 1~40℃).
