A DC Torque Motor is a special type of brushless permanent magnet synchronous motor, as the load is directly connected to the rotor, no transmission parts are required, thus making torque motors a direct drive technology. Torque motors are also referred to as "frameless" motors. This means the motor lacks a housing, bearings, or measurement system. These components are selected by the machine manufacturer based on the required performance or purchased as a complete set.

The torque motor utilizes a permanent magnet brushless motor design, consisting of a ring-shaped stator and a ring-shaped rotor. The stator does not employ a toothed lamination design but is instead composed of smooth cylindrical laminations. The rotor is made up of multi-pole rare earth permanent magnet poles and a ring-shaped hollow shaft. This structure is characterized by a large air gap and uniform magnetic resistance throughout the entire working air gap, thereby endowing the motor with the advantage of zero-slot torque.
