Common faults of diesel engine water pumps are summarized as follows:
(1) Pump not discharging water
Technically speaking, if you find that your single-stage diesel engine pump isn't delivering water, it's likely an issue with the impeller passage. If the passage is blocked by debris, it can't ensure the pump's normal operation. Therefore, regular cleaning of the pump is very necessary.
(2) Insufficient head pressure
The occurrence of "insufficient head" is mainly reflected at the pump outlet of mobile diesel-driven water pumps, as the pump outlet position cannot meet the requirements of the working condition. Consequently, the number of faults arising from this issue is quite numerous. Generally, we summarize three common causes: cavitation in the pump, severe wear of the impeller after long-term use, and the matching motor's speed being lower than the required speed of the pump, all of which can lead to a low pump head. You can adopt methods such as increasing the liquid level height at the pump inlet or lowering the pump installation position to avoid insufficient head. Additionally, regularly replacing the impeller and selecting the appropriate pump type are effective ways to reduce faults.
(B3) Bearing overheating
When the mobile diesel engine pump operates for an extended period, the pump's operating temperature may exceed the normal temperature range for the bearings. Generally, such issues arise primarily due to insufficient oil in the bearing housing or deteriorated lubricating oil, which causes abnormal bearing temperatures. Therefore, users should regularly replace the diesel or lubricating oil.

Diesel pump season change usage requires cleaning the crankcase and all lubrication surfaces. The method is to use a mixture of engine oil, kerosene, and diesel as the cleaning oil. This can be added after the engine oil is drained for cleaning. Then, the diesel pump unit should operate at low speed for 3-5 minutes, followed by draining the cleaning oil and adding new engine oil. Various fuel filters in the fuel supply system should be cleared of debris every 100-200 hours of operation, and the fuel tank and all fuel lines should be cleaned. When cleaning the filter cores and seals, extra care should be taken. Any damage found should be replaced promptly. During seasonal oil changeover, the entire fuel supply system components should be cleaned. The diesel used should meet seasonal requirements and must undergo 48 hours of sedimentation and purification treatment.
Air filters, oil filters, and fuel filters are all wear items that must be replaced after more than 500 hours of use to better extend the lifespan of the diesel engine pump. To prolong the life of the pump on the diesel engine pump, avoid running it dry. 2. Operate frequently to prevent rust and corrosion of the impeller and sealing ring, which can damage the sealing gap. 3. Avoid exceeding the suction head on horizontal centrifugal pumps. 4. Do not tighten the packing too much; ensure there is sufficient cooling water flowing out along the shaft.
