The switch consists of a switch point, frog, guard rail, connecting parts, and switch ties. The switch point is a device used to guide locomotives and rolling stock from the main track to a siding or vice versa. It is composed of a pair of switch rails, a pair of main rails, a switch mechanism, and some connecting parts. The switch mechanism, also known as the switch lever, is made up of a bracket, switch indicator, pull rod, bend rod, etc., to operate the left and right swing of the switch rails and change the opening direction of the switch. The frog and guard rail are transition devices that allow the wheels of locomotives and rolling stock to cross from one rail to another.
