1. Find a lower place among higher places

According to the terrain, go to valleys or low-lying areas to find water. For example, in mountainous areas, groundwater usually accumulates in valleys or is discharged to the surface to form springs; In the drowning valleys along the coast or lake, due to the concentrated infiltration of rainwater and surface water, it can form freshwater lenses, which are buried in the low-lying areas of the drowning valleys. The groundwater in sand dunes in desert areas is shallowly buried in the depressions between sand dunes.

2. Search for rock layers with poor permeability in rock layers with good permeability

Finding water in mountainous areas with well-developed rock fissures and good permeability (such as limestone areas) is difficult due to the high permeability of rocks. Precipitation infiltrates deeply along the fissures, and groundwater is buried at depths of tens to hundreds of meters. It is currently challenging to drill such deep wells in mountainous areas with scattered residential areas. In such areas, efforts should be made to find shallow or relatively impermeable layers when searching for water. In this way, the aquitard can prevent the groundwater that seeps into the upper part from continuing to infiltrate and accumulating above the aquitard. Although this aquifer may not have a large water volume at times, it is buried shallowly and can meet the water requirements for small residential areas.
