During the greenhouse cultivation process, covering materials play a significant role, affecting the growth of vegetables. Therefore, the selection of greenhouse covering materials is still crucial. What types of covering materials are needed for greenhouses, and what are their characteristics?

Our previous plastic greenhouse film was weak in strength and durability, typically lasting only two years, and some needed to be dismantled annually during summer. To reduce costs, repairs were sometimes made to the film. What are the repair methods available?

One: The water filling method involves cleaning and drying the damaged area. Cut a piece of intact film slightly larger than the damaged spot, dip it in water, and apply it to the hole. Remove any air between the two films and press it flat.

Paper patch method: In case of minor damage to agricultural film, dampen a piece of paper and apply it to the damaged area while wet. It can usually be used for about 10 days.

Three, the patching method involves making a paste with water and adding an amount of red sugar equivalent to one-third of the weight of the dry flour. After slight heating, it is used to patch the film. After dismantling the greenhouse, the film should be repaired. For thicker films that sustain damage, a film of the same texture can be overlaid and tightly stitched together with fine thread.

Four, the hot patch method: Clean the damaged area, cover the hole with a slightly larger film, then cover it with 2-3 layers of newspaper, and gently iron along the seam with an iron. The two films will fuse together upon heating and cool down.

Five, the patching method: Clean the surrounding area of the hole, apply glue with a brush, then wait for 3-5 minutes. Place a film of the same texture on top, and secure it once the glue dries. The heat patching and glue patching methods are suitable for membranes, but the stitching method not only leaks air but is also prone to coming apart; avoid using it for thinner membranes.
