Sports wood flooring is a type of athletic flooring that combines load-bearing, shock-absorbing, and deformation-resistant properties. It is composed of a moisture-proof layer, an elastic shock-absorbing layer, moisture-proof plywood layer, and panel layer. Compared to regular wood flooring, sports wood flooring requires higher installation standards; improper installation can directly impact its lifespan. As the saying goes, "Three parts product, seven parts installation." The subsequent use of sports wood flooring largely depends on the quality of installation. What details should be paid attention to during the installation of sports wood flooring?
1. Preventing Uneven Ground
When installing sports wooden flooring, if the ground is uneven, use a level to level the subfloor. If it's still uneven, adjust with wooden shims. Otherwise, an uneven surface may cause some sports wooden flooring and subfloors to hang in the air, resulting in loud noises when stepped on.
2. Preventing the frame from being used before drying
Ensure that the wooden joists are sufficiently dry during installation; qualified wood flooring typically has a moisture content of around 12%. Excessive humidity differences can cause the flooring to absorb moisture rapidly, leading to warping and cracking of the finish. Moreover, the insulation and soundproofing materials, as well as other materials, must also be kept dry.
3. Expansion joints must be预留 correctly.
As environmental humidity and temperature fluctuate, wooden flooring tends to expand or contract. After the flooring is installed, it is generally recommended to leave a gap of 2.5 to 3 centimeters at the edges for expansion and contraction. This gap can be adjusted according to local temperature differences and climate variations; otherwise, in severe cases, larger gaps or buckling may occur.
4. Note: Secure with additional nails
During the installation of sports wooden flooring, using the method of nailing with wooden wedges can result in insufficient grip due to the small contact area between the wedges and nails, causing the wooden joists to become loose. This may lead to creaking sounds when walking on the wooden flooring.
5. Install moisture-proof film as required.
When installing wooden flooring, installers must never rush the process by neglecting to follow the instructions for installation or maintenance. This is especially true for the application of moisture barriers. The moisture barrier must be in close contact with the back of the flooring. A layer of subfloor should be nailed onto the joists to support the moisture barrier, ensuring it is tightly in contact with the back of the flooring. Only then can effective moisture prevention be achieved, protecting the internal structure of the wooden flooring and extending its lifespan.
6. Prevent Early Painting
After flooring is installed, it usually takes some time before sanding and painting can be done. It's essential to wait until the properties of the sports parquet stabilize before proceeding with sanding and painting. The surface of the sports parquet requires the application of a specialized sports parquet paint, a water-based polyurethane paint, which is not only environmentally friendly and odorless, but also non-toxic and safe. It boasts sports characteristics like anti-slip, shock resistance, and high abrasion resistance, meeting the high-frequency and high-intensity use demands of sports facility floors.
7. Emphasize the post-installation maintenance of sports wooden floors.
Many believe that once the sports wooden floor is installed, they can rest easy without any further management. However, the installation is just the beginning. The post-installation maintenance of the wooden floor is crucial. Immediate cleaning and maintenance should be conducted after installation, and regular cleaning and daily maintenance are required after it's put into use to ensure the floor's luster and quality.
