Major issues in coated sand testing

In 1992, the mandatory inspection criteria for the casting coated sand industry standards revision included: room temperature bending strength, hot bending strength, ignition loss, particle size, and melting point. Optional test criteria were: room temperature tensile strength, hot tensile strength, gas evolution, and fluidity. Over the past decade, the performance of casting coated sand has significantly improved, and accordingly, some new test criteria have been added:

(1) High-temperature compressive strength simulation casting tests the compressive strength of coated sand cores under temperatures of 1000-1500°C.

(2) The heat resistance test demonstrates that the coated sand cores maintain their strength at high temperatures (700-1500°C) without deformation or collapse.

(3) Shell Peeling Resistance - Test the shell peeling resistance of the coated sand.

Currently, the main issues in the detection of coated sand in our country include:

1. Most companies' testing methods are still imperfect; they mainly retain the initial stage of testing for room temperature strength, melting point, particle size, and gas escape.

2. The precision and stability of casting coated sand testing equipment are not high. The same equipment can be used under different manufacturers' field conditions. The test performance indicators of coated sand can sometimes vary greatly. For example, the tensile strength at room temperature may differ by over 10 kg, and the gas emission may differ by over 5 milliliters.

Currently, China's most advanced sand coating tester includes high-temperature performance testers, gas generators, and thermal strength testers.
