Chinese Star Jasmine is a species of the Celastraceae family and the Celastrus genus. It has many adventitious roots, opposite leaves, thin leathery, elliptical, with serrated edges. It prefers shaded and moist environments, is drought-tolerant, adaptable, grows lushly, and the leaves turn bright red in winter. The ground cover height is about 15 cm, making it an evergreen climbing vine. The stems creep or climb, up to 10 cm in length. The leaves are leathery, smaller and thicker. The leaf veins on the back are not as prominent as the original species. Umbel inflorescences; flowers are greenish white. The capsules are nearly spherical, yellowish red, with orange-red aril on the seeds. Flowering period is June to July, fruiting period is October.
