A chimney appears to have been struck by lightning, resulting in significant damage to the exterior surface, extending up to dozens of meters. Due to this, over 300 residents living near the factory were urgently evacuated. The specialized building demolition team responsible for dismantling the chimney officially began work yesterday and is set to remove the hazardous chimney within 8 days. After the chimney incident, the Wenhua District government and Jingshan Street were highly concerned, deploying 20 security personnel to set up cautionary lines and evacuate nearby residents that night. To date, over 300 people have been relocated, "Many locals in Wenzhou have sought refuge with their relatives, while over 100 nearby migrant workers have been accommodated in nearby hotels." A manager from the Wenzhou Dyeing and Weaving Group Co., Ltd. explained, "Considering the chimney could collapse, residents within nearly 100 meters around the chimney were targeted for evacuation and relocation." He anticipates that residents will be able to safely return to their homes in about a week.
The journalist learned that the chimney, reportedly struck by lightning, currently belongs to Wenzhou Dyeing and Weaving Group Co., Ltd. It is currently in use by Tianmei Dyeing and Weaving Co., Ltd., which leases the factory from the company, primarily for discharging dust and exhaust from boiler combustion. A worker from Tianmei Dyeing and Weaving Co. explained that due to the lightning strike, the chimney is now unusable, and the company has temporarily halted production. "This chimney was originally built by the predecessor of the dyeing and weaving group, Wenzhou Dyeing Factory, in the late 1970s, standing 130 meters tall, and had never been struck by lightning before," a manager from Wenzhou Dyeing and Weaving Group told the journalist. "After the chimney, which has been in use for over 30 years, is demolished, it is very likely that a new chimney will be constructed. Currently, there are two types of chimneys available: stainless steel with water film dust removal and dry spiral dust removal. The type to be built will be decided in consultation with the users." By 6 a.m. yesterday, the emergency rescue team from Wenzhou Gaowei High-altitude Construction Demolition Co. had arrived on site for construction. At the scene, workers were seen in a rush to complete the work, with scaffolding already reaching the sixth floor.
According to a manager at the company, "After receiving the task, we began construction in the morning. To facilitate the work, we first cleared the area around the chimney before proceeding with the construction." It is learned that the contract between the company and the owner stipulates that the entire chimney removal should not exceed 8 days. "We plan to spend two days setting up scaffolding and protective nets, four days dismantling the chimney from top to bottom, and two days cleaning up the construction waste on site." Manager Lu from the company believes that the most difficult part of the chimney removal is the unstable damaged areas, which require minimal震动 during dismantling, posing a challenge throughout the process. "Having removed multiple similar chimneys, we should be able to complete the task well within the 8-day timeframe, ensuring the safety of nearby residents."
