What to do when a surveillance camera displays a distorted screen?

What to do if the surveillance camera screen shows artifacts? If the surveillance video displays artifacts, it's usually due to packet loss in the lines, resulting in the recorder receiving incomplete video data. How to troubleshoot this situation? Let me give you a brief introduction.

Monitor screens are experiencing pixelation issues, which can be tested using the ping command to check for packet loss and latency between the recorder and the camera. If the monitor screen shows pixelation, mosaic, trailing, or freezing, first use the network detection feature within the recorder's NVR main menu. Enter the camera's IP address to test for packet loss or latency, and judge the network quality between the recorder NVR and each camera based on the packet loss rate and latency.

Generally, a delay of 1~2ms is considered normal. If the ping test value exceeds this figure, it may indicate a fault in the network line. If all surveillance screens display a distorted image, meaning each camera is experiencing latency, it could be an issue with the main network, such as a problem between the video recorder and the main network.SwitchA fault exists. It is necessary to check the negotiation rate of the NVR's network port, the network cable connection between the NVR and the core switch, the quality of the水晶头, etc.

If some surveillance camera feeds are experiencing screen distortion and a high packet loss rate, the issue may lie between the access switch and the aggregation switch. Insufficient transmission bandwidth at the uplink port of the switch may cause the anomaly. For example, if there are many cameras connected, and the aggregation switch is using a gigabit port for uplink.

There are issues with the network cables, and the direct connection problems with the cables are often overlooked, especially the quality of the cables in the main trunk network. If the quality of the cables in the main trunk network is poor, it will undoubtedly affect the communication between the NVR and all the cameras, as these cables are the core lines connecting the recording device NVR to the switch.
