Prior to the construction and installation of expansion joints, it is necessary to formulate a specialized construction plan. The process and steps must be detailed and comprehensive, particularly regarding the explicit remedial measures for deficiencies such as unsatisfactory asphalt surface flatness, non-compliant gaps at the ends of beams and slabs, and insufficient pre-buried reinforcing steel in the original beams and slabs. Each section should establish a professional construction team, which includes a sawing team, a trenching team, an installation team, and a concrete pouring team.
To prepare for the reverse trenching work, clean the reserved gaps and insert foam boards. Fill the slots with sandbags or graded sand and stone bags. Only proceed with the reverse trenching once the asphalt concrete pavement is completed and has reached the designed strength. When installing expansion joints, determine the installation width based on the real-time temperature. Use a level to control the height, a string to control straightness, and a feeler gauge to control flatness. After checking for correctness, weld and secure the joint body to the embedded steel reinforcement. Install the formwork and protect the steel sections, pour C50 steel fiber concrete, paying special attention to the flatness and elevation of the concrete. Clean the steel sections and fill with sealant.
