All of these steel wire strands have a protective layer applied to their surface, which plays a crucial role. These protective layers not only make the wire strand stronger but also provide better assistance in various situations. Besides the usual steel wire strand, there is another type called unbonded steel wire strand, which is composed only of bare wires. Such steel wire strand is generally not coated, and its surface is covered with a plastic sheath. This sheath plays a vital role during use, ensuring the wire strand is safe. Additionally, a layer of grease is applied to the plastic sheath during use to prevent contact between the concrete and the steel wire strand, thus making it known as unbonded prestressed steel wire strand.
