Prof. Wang Chang Bio: Ph.D., Supervisor of Doctoral Candidates, Professor, Haihe Scholar, Returned Overseas Chinese, Leader in Environmental Engineering Discipline, Part-time Professor at Tianjin University, Council Member of the Chinese Energy Society, Editorial Board Member of "Water Treatment Technology" and "Journal of Tianjin University of Science and Technology," Talent for Returning Entrepreneurs under the "530" Plan of Wuxi City, Chief Expert of Modern Enterprises in Dezhou City, Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Biological Treatment of Domestic Wastewater. Published 142 academic papers (19 indexed by SCI and EI), with 54 patents authorized, including 19 invention patents. Has led projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Science and Technology Support Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, International Cooperation Projects, Natural Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Major Special Projects of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and Major Special Projects of Tianjin Municipal Agricultural Commission, with a total funding of over 16.5 million yuan. Has won multiple honors including the First Prize of the Ministry of Agriculture's Rich Harvest Award, the Gold Award for Invention Patents of Tianjin, the National Patent Award, the First Prize of the Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, the Outstanding Individual in the Labor Competition System of the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, and the Outstanding Scientist of Tianjin University of Science and Technology (twice).
Professor Wang Chang earned his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Engineering at the National University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 1995. With exceptional academic performance, he remained at the university to teach, serving as an instructor and assistant professor under the Ministry of Education, Japan. In April 1997, he left the university to join Oceania Industrial Co., Ltd. in Japan, where he was promoted to factory manager in April 1999. To foster Sino-Japanese friendship, recommended by the University of Tokyo, he courageously returned to China and joined Tianjin University of Science and Technology, where he engaged in the Sino-Japanese graduate school and the establishment of an undergraduate major in environmental engineering. Starting from scratch, he founded a laboratory and took on the significant responsibility of leading the environmental science discipline.
Since 2003, Professor Wang Chang has been the pioneer in China for the development and application research of decentralized wastewater treatment and purification tanks in rural areas. After a decade of honing his skills, through seventeen years of effort, he has achieved a national leading position in rural wastewater treatment technology and equipment, owning 23 authorized patents and 3 invention patents. On November 7, 2011, CCTV Channel 7's "Science and Technology Garden" featured Professor Wang's social impact on the construction of new rural areas during prime time.
In September 2009, Professor Wang Chang was awarded the Wuxi City "530" Leader-type Returning Entrepreneur Talent Title. In 2013, he was honored with the First Prize of the Ministry of Agriculture's Rich Harvest Award. On September 4, 2013, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhang Taolin visited the demonstration project on-site, offering high praise. On September 2, 2013, a delegation of Tokyo University professors visited the demonstration project for the decentralized treatment and purification of rural domestic wastewater, expressing admiration. They particularly invited Professor Wang Chang to lecture and exchange at Tokyo University, and he was awarded the International Exchange Prize by the Japan Water Environment Society in 2017.
In June 2019, the Secretary of the Municipal Committee, Li Hongzhong, personally inspected the rural ecological demonstration area in Jinnan District. The rural domestic wastewater treatment base developed by Professor Wang Chang received unanimous praise from the visiting group, including Secretary Li Hongzhong, and was awarded the First Prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress in 2019.
