Acrylic or plexiglass is a common material used for headlights and vehicles due to its impact resistance. However, it is prone to scratches and damage. If the acrylic has severe scratches, you'll need to sand it down for repair. Otherwise, you can easily handle surface scratches with commercial scratch removers or a heat gun. Either way, your acrylic will shine like new again after the job is done!

One, sand scratch

1. Wet some 800-grit sandpaper, then run a 800-grit sandpaper under a stream of hot water. Next, shake and wring out the excess water. If possible, sit near the sink so you can re-wet the sandpaper as needed.

If there are severe scratches on the acrylic, please start with 600-grit sandpaper.

Hint: Run your fingernail vertically along the scratch. If it falls in and gets caught, it indicates a severe scratch. If it just sits on top, it suggests a minor scratch.

2. Buff the scratch circles for 1 minute. Gently scrape the scratches with a wet sandpaper. Polish the surface evenly using smaller circular motions. Buff all scraped areas for 1 minute, and re-wet the sandpaper when it dries.

Acrylic may appear cloudy or frosted during the process, but it will not remain in this state after completion.

3. Alternate between dry and wet sandpaper. Use 800-grit dry sandpaper and cover the same area. Continue working in small circles to ensure the scratch is completely smooth. After about 30 seconds, switch back to wet sandpaper. During the next 2 minutes, change the sandpaper every 30 seconds.

Switching back and forth between wet and dry sandpaper results in greater wear and aids in faster scratch removal.

Step 4: After completing the 800-grit sandpaper, switch to the 1200-grit sandpaper to achieve a smoother finish on the acrylic. Begin by polishing for 30 seconds with a wet sandpaper, then proceed to dry sanding. Alternate between wet and dry sandpaper for 3 minutes to buff the surface to be treated.

5. Apply organic glass polishing agent. After sandpapering the treated area, it will appear cloudy. Apply a small amount of the organic glass polishing agent to a clean cloth, then buff it onto the surface with small circular motions. Continue polishing for 30 seconds or until the product becomes clear. Wipe it dry with a clean dry cloth and then buff it over the surface.

You can purchase acrylic polish at any hardware store.

In some stores, it may be referred to as acrylic polish.

Secondly, utilize commercially available scratch-resistant products.

1. Soak a clean cloth in hot water. Use a cleaning cloth made from soft materials, such as cotton or microfiber. Run it under the hot water until fully soaked. Then wring it out to prevent it from shedding while in use.

Do not use abrasive wet wipes, as they will only further scratch the acrylic.

Apply a small amount of scratch-resistant product to the wiping cloth. Acrylic scratch-resistant products can polish acrylic glass and remove surface scratches. Dab a little on a damp cloth, then wipe to spread it out. Use more if several scratches need to be removed.

Scratch-resistant products are now available at hardware stores and supermarkets.

Scuff-resistant products can be directly applied to acrylic glass if needed.

3. Rub away scratches for 30 seconds. Use a cloth to make small circular motions to penetrate the product. Wipe the surface as evenly as possible to fill in the scratches and match the rest of the acrylic. Continue wiping for at least 30 seconds, or until the product is no longer visible.

4. Wipe the acrylic with a dry cloth. After applying the scratch remover, immediately use a lint-free cloth to wipe away the small circles on the surface of the acrylic, removing any excess. After this step, the scratches should be gone.

Hold the acrylic glass up to the light to check for visible scratches. If they are still present, apply another layer of scratch remover.

Scratches on the Heating Surface

1. Choose low temperature. Insert the hot air device, locate the temperature control button or dial on the side. Press the arrow button or turn the dial to select low temperature.

Hot air blowers are now available at hardware stores.

Most people plug it in and start heating it to a low temperature.

2. Position the剥离器 5 to 8 cm away from the acrylic. Place the acrylic so you can easily scrape with the hot air. Set the剥离器的 nozzle at least 2 inches away from the acrylic to prevent accidental melting or the formation of bubbles on its surface. Once ready, press the start button on the distillation tower.

Ensure acrylic on heat-resistant surfaces, as the stripper can make it very hot.

Warning: Do not direct the hot air blower at people or flammable objects, as it is extremely hot!

Walk back and forth along the strip. Continuously move the hot air supply to prevent the acrylic from melting or bubbling on the surface. Use small back and forth strokes across the entire strip until it begins to fade. Adjust the angle of the scraper to touch all scratches. After heating for 20 to 30 seconds, light scratches will start to disappear.

Hot Air will not allow you to remove deep scratches.

Reminder

Certain deep scratches cannot be completely removed, but you can make them less noticeable.
