Reasons for the Corrosion of FRP Pipe

During the application process, corrosion of the glass fiber reinforced pipeline may occur, which is generally caused by two major conditions:

1. During the welding and patching of glass fiber reinforced plastic pipelines, due to the high difficulty and strict requirements of the patching skill, it is often challenging to meet the standards during construction, leading to perforations in the welding area.

2. Due to rapid heating and cooling during welding, the arrangement of the base material changes, leading to galvanic corrosion; the influence of other welding residual stresses causes stress corrosion. Glass fiber reinforced plastic conduit, also known as glass fiber reinforced plastic pipe, is made by bonding glass fibers with unsaturated resins, and can be categorized into low alkali, medium alkali, and high alkali pipes. Quality is determined by the alkali content. The glass fiber reinforced plastic conduit is strong in pressure resistance, lightweight, with a smooth inner wall, and has a low friction coefficient, making it easy to install cables without damaging them. The glass fiber reinforced plastic conduit serves as a cable maintenance device that provides protection against external pressures or impacts in underground power and communication cable equipment. The smooth inner and outer surfaces of the glass fiber pipe significantly reduce pressure loss along the pipeline, allowing for the use of smaller diameters or less powerful pumps at the same flow rate, thereby reducing initial engineering costs and energy consumption (operational costs). The addition of resin mortar in the middle layer of the pipe wall increases its stiffness, making it suitable for various soil environments and submarine laying.

Here are several maintenance methods for fiberglass piping:

1. Inspect the fiberglass' fixation condition

3. Review operational status and check historical maintenance records

3. View the Calibration Mechanical Operation Section

4. Inspect electrical wiring conditions

5. To inspect the exterior condition

6. Review and Adjust Overall Operational Status

7. Effective Cleaning: FRP sand pipes are resistant to corrosion from acids, alkalis, salts, seawater, untreated wastewater, corrosive soils, and various chemical fluids. Typically, the lifespan of plastic pipes is 3 years, cast iron pipes last 5-10 years, and steel pipes have a lifespan of only 15 years, while FRP sand pipes can last up to 50 years.Glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) sand pipes typically operate at temperatures ranging from 40℃ to 80℃. With the use of special resins, the operating temperature can be higher, and they will not deform in the summer heat. The inner and outer surfaces of the FRP sand pipes are lubricated, preventing attachment to various microorganisms in the culture medium and causing no algal growth. Metal or concrete pipes can develop algae over time, which directly impacts their service life.
