First, pinch the two corners on the same side with your hands and pull them apart to flatten the blanket neatly on the bed. Then, fold the custom-made blanket from the outside in, reducing its width to one-third of the original size.
If the surface of the quilt has some creases at this time, smooth them out by hand. Once the creases are gone, pinch a 7-centimeter-wide strip along the sides of the quilt, slightly less than a quarter of the way in. Repeat to make the strip prominent, then pinch both sides of the strip with both hands.
Pull the strip upwards to create a ridge along its entire length, and replicate this ridge on the other end of the quilt. Fold the portion of the quilt slightly less than a quarter of the strip's outer edge upwards, then repeat the folding process on the other end of the quilt.
If the edges of the blanket aren't neatly aligned at this point, fold the two sides inward by hand. Then, create a raised strip in the middle of the blanket, and fold the left side over to the right.
If you find that one end of a handmade quilt has an opening for filling with cotton, which looks unappealing, simply flip the quilt with your hands to expose the smoother side. If the corners of the quilt are uneven, use a small card to brush the corners, making the edges crisp and defined. This will result in a neatly folded, square quilt that meets the standard of tidiness.
