Appearance: Solid in the form of white sheets, granules, or powder; liquid is colorless and transparent.
Property: Specific gravity1.69 is hygroscopic and tends to cake when stored in the air for extended periods; its dehydration temperature is 86.5°C. It is soluble in water, acids, and bases but not in alcohols. Its aqueous solution is acidic with a tart and astringent taste. It begins to decompose at 530°C and finishes decomposing at 860°C, with the final decomposition product being r-Al2O3.
Application Fields
Primarily used in water treatment, high-grade paper manufacturing, post-processing of titanium dioxide, and as a catalyst carrier. Also serves as a foam fire extinguisher, a flame retardant for insulation materials, an additive for refractory materials, and raw material for artificial gemstones.
