To achieve better operational efficiency, heating, cooling, and temperature control systems require the selection of brand-name thermal oils. However, it is crucial to pay attention to the safe storage of these oils, as neglect can lead to adverse effects.
Thermal oil used in heating, cooling, and temperature control systems, despite having a high boiling and flash point, is still a flammable liquid. Therefore, safety precautions must be taken when using it, as improper use may lead to fires. The causes of fires are primarily due to leaks, and there are mainly four types of leak-induced fires:
Insulation Zone Fire Incident
A common type of fire in organic thermal oil systems occurs when there is a leak at the flange or instrument connection, allowing the thermal oil to seep into the insulation area. Under the presence of air, the circulating liquid and pipe heat raise the temperature of the thermal oil, gradually oxidizing the liquid and igniting the insulation area, leading to a fire.
B. Pipeline Leaks and Explosions Lead to Fire Incidents:
A fire occurred due to the leakage or explosion of a pipeline, causing thermal oil to flow into the hot gas flame zone.
Fire caused by Flash Point
Factors leading to a flash point fire include the presence of thermal oil, air, and a flame source when the temperature is above the lower flash point temperature of the thermal oil in the heating and cooling control system.
Fire caused by raw materials in the process.
The fire was caused by the leakage of thermal oil into a heating system, where the process material is easily oxidizable and oxidizing.
In addition to the four types of fires mentioned above, extra attention should be given to the use of gas-phase systems, as a large amount of thermal oil vapor leakage can form an aerosol mist. This mist can cause an explosion and fire when exposed to an open flame in the air.
In summary, the thermal oil in the heating and cooling temperature control system is crucial for its operational efficiency and safety. Therefore, proper maintenance and repair of the thermal oil system are essential to prevent leaks.
