We extract basalt aggregates, and often use acid for cleaning. However, a yellowing phenomenon often occurs after cleaning. Why is that? What measures can we take to prevent the basalt from turning yellow?
1. Certain acid-washed basalt products were not pre-treated with magnetic separation, leading to the removal of metallic iron only after acid washing. Some metallic iron residue remained in the basalt post-acidification, which rapidly oxidized, contaminating the basalt and causing it to turn yellow directly.
2. Basalt turns yellow due to secondary contamination (oxidation with iron) upon contact with handling equipment before drying.
Incomplete pickling can lead to acid residue on the surface of quartz particles, causing yellowing. This is due to the presence of chloride and sulfate ions on the basalt surface.
Here is an introduction to the causes and measures for the yellowing of pickled basalt. In our daily use, we should also pay more attention to these points, take preventive measures, frequently check during the pickling process, and strictly follow the cleaning procedures for purification.
