Mini CraneSteel Wire RopeOnce snapped, the consequences are unimaginable. To avoid safety accidents caused by snapping, operators should understand the various reasons for the wire rope of a crane to snap and take corresponding preventive measures.
Illegal operation
Violations include: cranes lifting objects of unknown weight; overloading and diagonal lifting of the suspended loads during operations. In fact, the lifting wire rope undergoes a highly complex stress condition upon bearing the load (as the drum is activated during the lifting process – the wire rope winds around – the pulley – the hook assembly – and the load is lifted). The wire rope is subjected to frequent bending, wear, compression, and stretching forces during operation. During emergency lifting or braking (stop) of the crane, the stainless steel wire rope also endures significant impact forces (determined by the volume of the heavy load). Therefore, when calculating and selecting wire rope, it is essential to account for the unevenness of the wire rope material, inaccuracies in stress analysis and calculation, various adverse factors during operation, and the occurrence of unexpected wind loads. This ensures that the wire rope is given a reserve capacity, which is commonly known as the safety factor.
