LNG Tank Characteristics Requirements
Low-temperature resistance
The boiling point of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at atmospheric pressure is -162°C. Therefore, LNG storage tanks must have excellent low-temperature resistance and superior insulation properties.
(2) High safety requirements
Due to the storage of low-temperature liquids inside the tank, in the event of an accident, the refrigerated liquid would volatilize in large quantities, with the vaporization amount being approximately 625 times that of the refrigerated state, forming an explosive mixture in the atmosphere. Therefore, it is required that the tank be constructed with a double-walled structure and utilize the sealing concept. In the event of a leak in the first layer, the second layer can completely seal off the leaked liquid and evaporated gas, ensuring storage safety.
(3) Special Material.
The inner tank must be able to withstand low temperatures and is made of Austenitic stainless steel, while the outer cylinder is constructed from Q345R ordinary low-carbon alloy steel plate.
(4) Strict thermal insulation measures.
Due to the maximum temperature difference between inside and outside the tank reaching up to 200℃, the tank must have excellent insulation properties to maintain an internal temperature of -160℃. High-performance insulation material should be filled between the inner and outer tanks. The insulation material at the bottom of the tank must also have sufficient load-bearing capacity. (5) Good seismic performance
The seismic requirements for general buildings are to crack but not collapse under specified seismic loads. To ensure the safety of storage tanks under unexpected loads, they must possess excellent seismic performance. Ensure that the tank body remains undamaged under the given seismic intensity. (6) Strict construction requirements
The tank welds must undergo 100% magnetic particle testing (MT) and 100% vacuum leak testing (VBT). Strict selection of insulation materials is required, and the prescribed procedures must be followed during construction.
2. LNG tank structure
The low-temperature storage tank is a double-layer structure, with the inner tank designed for storing low-temperature liquids, withstanding the pressure and low temperatures of the medium. The material used for the inner tank is a low-temperature-resistant alloy steel (0Crl8Ni9). The outer shell acts as a protective layer for the inner tank, maintaining a certain gap to form an insulating space. It bears the gravitational loads of the inner tank and the medium, as well as the vacuum negative pressure of the insulating layer. The outer shell does not come into contact with the low temperature and is made of container steel. The insulating layer is mostly filled with mica sand and high vacuum is drawn. The evaporation rate of the low-temperature storage tank is generally below 0.2%.
Main components include: outer can, inner can, inner lining support, insulation layer, upper and lower liquid inlet pipes, upper and lower liquid level pipes, vapor pipe, overflow pipe, discharge pipe, as well as safety accessories and instruments, etc.

Horizontal 60 Cubic Meter LNG Storage Tank, Manufacturer of Liquefied Natural Gas Storage Tanks
LNG tanks are multi-reusable, low-temperature, insulated pressure vessels. These tanks feature high gas tightness, low thermal conductivity, excellent insulation properties, minimal evaporation loss, and a long service life. They have been mass-produced through a continuous production line. Heze Boiler Factory produces 3-cubic, 5-cubic, 10-cubic, 15-cubic, 20-cubic, 30-cubic, 50-cubic, 60-cubic, and 100-cubic low-temperature LNG tanks, as well as custom-sized low-temperature LNG tanks.
The operational pressure of the LNG low-temperature storage tank is 0.6-1.44 MPa, with an operational temperature of -162°C, and it is a flat-bottomed double-walled cylindrical design. The tank consists of two layers: an inner layer for storing liquefied natural gas and an outer layer for protection and insulation. The inner and outer shells are separated and independent to minimize the transfer of external heat into the tank. The tank is composed of a carbon steel vacuum shell and a pressure vessel inside it. It can operate under low to medium pressure as per actual design requirements. Explosion-proof discs and double safety valves protect the tank against excessive pressure. The safety relief device is designed to protect the internal pressure vessel and vacuum shell, adhering to GB150 and "Fixed Container Regulations." This includes a double safety relief valve and explosion-proof disc for the internal pressure vessel and an explosion-proof cover for the vacuum shell. The tank is designed and manufactured for safety, reliable operation, and durability (can operate without fault for many years). Strict adherence to proper safety and operational procedures is required when handling the tank.
LNG storage tanks are the main equipment of LNG gasification stations, directly affecting their normal operation and accounting for a significant portion of the construction cost. They can be categorized into underground tanks, above-ground metal tanks, and metal prestressed concrete tanks. Available types of LNG storage tanks include vacuum powder insulation, positive pressure accumulation insulation, and high vacuum layer insulation tanks. Medium and small-scale gasification stations typically opt for vacuum powder insulation low-temperature tanks. The tanks are divided into inner and outer layers, with the gap filled with mica sand and vacuumed to reduce the transmission of external heat, ensuring the daily gasification rate of LNG inside the tank is less than 0.3%.
