For instance, food-grade silicone, extruded silicone, high-temperature-resistant silicone, and odorless silicone, among others. Each grade of silicone serves different purposes and varies significantly in price.
However, most people can't differentiate between silicone grades, so some unscrupulous manufacturers sell low-grade silicone products at the price of high-grade ones. Here's a 3-second method to distinguish between food-grade silicone and regular silicone (highlight, take notes).
This method is quite simple; let's call it the "Aggressive Pulling Technique," for now.Silicone TubeAs an example, pinch both ends of the silicone tube with your fingers, then pull it apart. The regular silicone tube will show white, while the food-grade silicone tube will not.
If encountering items like a cup lid that are round, we simply "fold" them. The area where the fold is made will turn white if it's regular silicone, whereas food-grade silicone will not.
An auxiliary method is to smell it. If it pulls apart and turns white with a pungent odor, it can be determined as regular silicone, not food-grade. However, be aware that if it doesn't turn white but still has a faint smell, it's also food-grade. This is due to sulfurization during the manufacturing process, which doesn't affect product quality and can be naturally eliminated.
