Composite insulators are composed of three parts: an insulating core rod, a silicon rubber bushing, and the connecting hardware at both ends.

Insulating core rod, also known as the epoxy glass fiber pull rod, serves as the backbone of composite insulators, supporting the hood, internal insulation, connecting hardware at both ends, and bearing mechanical loads. It boasts a high tensile strength, typically exceeding 600 MPa, which is twice that of ordinary steel and 5 to 8 times that of ceramic materials. It also has excellent dielectric properties and resistance to chemical erosion, as well as good resistance to bending fatigue, creep, and impact. Silicone rubber hood primarily protects the core rod, shields against rain and snow, increases the creepage distance, and enhances the product's external insulation. Made from high molecular polymer silicone rubber with flame retardants, anti-aging agents, coupling agents, and other fillers that are cured at high temperature and pressure, it offers excellent hydrophobicity, migration resistance, and good resistance to corrosion, aging, and electrical insulation. It also has a high flashover voltage and fracture resistance, with uniform voltage distribution. Compared to ceramic materials, its flashover voltage under the same conditions is more than double that of ceramic.
