Composite insulators are composed of three parts: an insulating core rod, a silicon rubber sheath, and the connecting hardware at both ends. Insulating core rods, also known as epoxy resin glass fiber drawn rods, serve as the skeleton of composite insulators. They play a crucial role in supporting the hood, internal insulation, connecting the ends of hardware, and withstanding mechanical loads. They offer high tensile strength, typically exceeding 600 MPa, which is twice that of ordinary steel and 5 to 8 times that of ceramic materials. They also exhibit excellent dielectric properties and resistance to chemical erosion, as well as good resistance to bending fatigue, creep, and impact. Silicone rubber hoods primarily protect the core rods, shield against rain and snow, increase the creepage distance, and enhance the product's external insulation. These hoods are made from high molecular polymer silicone rubber, reinforced with flame retardants, anti-aging agents, coupling agents, and other fillers, vulcanized under high temperature and pressure. They offer good hydrophobicity and migration properties, along with excellent resistance to corrosion, aging, and electrical insulation. Additionally, they possess high dirt flashover voltage and resistance to fracturing, with a uniform voltage distribution. Compared to ceramics, their flashover voltage under the same conditions is more than twice that of ceramics. The composite insulator boasts excellent anti-fracture performance, strong vibration resistance, and will not experience brittle fracture accidents. The composite insulator is interchangeable and can be used in place of porcelain insulators and others.
