Principle of Ultrasonic Motor

Without using magnets and coils, its driving energy comes from the vibration of piezoelectric ceramics. As it rotates through friction, it is small and light. The torque is 5 to 10 times that of a similarly sized DC motor. Since it does not use coils and magnets as a power source, it can be constructed into a non-magnetic motor, confidently used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment or similar applications, less likely to be affected by high magnetic fields in nuclear magnetic resonance and magnetic fields. Additionally, it can maintain its position using non-powered or uncontrolled signals. And due to the absence of rebound, highly precise position control through direct driving of the device is possible. It is also highly responsive to start and stop signals.

Characteristics of Ultrasonic Motors

  1. Low speed, high torque

Achieves low-speed, high-torque output without a reduction gear.

  2. ‌Silent Performance‌

Due to the absence of gear transmission, the operation noise is extremely low.

  3. Maintain Torque

Maintains a certain torque even when not powered.

  4. ‌Unaffected by Magnetic Fields‌

Ideal for environments sensitive to electromagnetic interference, such as medical equipment.

  5. ‌Compact and Lightweight‌

    Compact and suitable for micro-devices.

Applications of Ultrasonic Motors

Ultrasonic motors are widely used in precision positioning devices such as the autofocus systems of single-lens reflex cameras, scanning electron microscopes, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Moreover, their low-speed, high-torque characteristics are also utilized for the lifting and lowering of roller blinds and curtains, as well as in the MRI units and peripheral equipment of medical devices.
