Advantages
Fused quartz is cheaper than zircon and has a much lower density, so replacing zircon with fused quartz can reduce shell-making costs.
The raw material of fused quartz is carefully selected, then remelted by an electric arc, and cubic quartz is removed, resulting in low impurities and high purity. Consequently, the stability of the paint slurry has never been an issue. Practice has proven that the stability of fused quartz-silica sol paint can typically last for over a year.
(3) High-temperature crystallization and low-temperature phase transition facilitate easy cleaning of the casting surface.
Flaw
(1) The narrow particle size distribution range of the powder, coupled with its low density, hinders the flow and dripping of the coating; the high transparency of the fused quartz coating paste makes it difficult for operators to discern the thickness and evenness of the coating.
(2) As surface撒砂, the granules of molten quartz sand are polygonal in shape, and due to their low density, they are prone to bridging, forming floating sand.
