Chinese Rush, scientific name: Lythrum salicaria L., belongs to the family Lythraceae and genus Lythrum, a perennial herb. The rhizome lies horizontally underground, robust; the stem is upright, much branched, the whole plant is greenish, slightly rough or densely pubescent, branches usually quadrangular. Leaves are opposite or in whorls of three, lanceolate or broadly lanceolate, apex obtuse or shortly acute, base round or cordate, sometimes slightly clasping the stem, entire, without petiole. Flowers form small corymbs, clustered together due to very short pedicels and rachis, making the flower branches look like a large spike; bracts are broadly lanceolate to triangular-ovate, triangular; accessory bodies are needle-like, upright, purplish-red or light purple, obliquely lanceolate elongated, base cuneate, attached to the upper part of the calyx, with short claws, slightly wrinkled; extending outside the calyx tube; ovary 2-chambered, styles of varying lengths. Capsule is flat and round.
