What to Note Before Using Marine Rope?

Marine ropes should be carefully inspected for any markings, label tags, and eyelets before each use, checking for cuts, broken fibers, frayed strands, or knots. If there are no abnormalities or defects, the rope can be used normally. When uncoiling the rope, start from the rope end inside the loop and unwind it counterclockwise. Coiling the rope clockwise can cause knots. If knots form, return the rope to the loop, flip the loop, and then pull the rope out from the center of the rope. A better method is to uncoil the rope on a turntable, where the rope can be pulled out from the external rope end.

How to Improve the Abrasion Resistance of Marine Ropes?

1. The Guiding Roller Stage. Before arrival, inspect all guiding rollers to ensure they are viable and have smooth surfaces. Take all possible measures to reduce wear on marine ropes. Taking a certain ship type as an example, there are a total of 92 guiding rollers on the entire ship. Regularly disassemble and oil the main components. Each time the rope reaches the port of contact, repaint the outer surface to ensure smoothness. A worn-out cable is inserted horizontally at the exit of the guiding hole to prevent the high molecular polyethylene cable from coming into contact with the hard roller base and the ship's hull outer plate, thus reducing friction. Actual inspections show that the results are satisfactory.

The cable car phase. New issues were discovered during the application of the renovated cableway. The ship's cable can only be wrapped around 1 to 2 layers of winches, leading to a high concentration of stress. The ship's cable is deeply pressed against the roller, being both soft and hard, posing a significant challenge. After docking, it was found that the ship's cable was not damaged, but it had undergone dramatic deformation.

Multiple "cable collar wraps" made from fiber cotton are designed to tighten around drums according to drum orders. This allows for flexible placement on ship mooring ropes at each port, where the angle of the cables may cause wear on guide drums. Actual applications show that this cotton sleeve can reduce wear between the ship mooring ropes and guide drums.
