Chinese finger citrons vary in name due to geographical conditions, climatic environments, and different producing areas: those cultivated in Guangdong and Guangxi provinces are known as "Guangfu Shou," mainly produced in Zhaoqing, Gaoyao, Yunfu, Sihui, and Yulin areas of Guangdong, and Yulin of Guangxi. The planting altitude generally ranges from 100 to 500 meters, with open hills and plains as the main planting areas; they are primarily used in the production of candied fruits and other edible products. The finger citrons from Jinhua, Zhejiang, are called "Jinfu Shou," mainly grown in greenhouses and often used for ornamental purposes in盆景. The finger citrons from Sichuan and Chongqing are known as "Chuanfu Shou," with the old varieties mainly produced in Heyang, Jianwei, and Muchuan (now critically endangered), Ya'an (currently widely planted but scattered), Yunyang of Chongqing (formerly accounting for 80% of the Chuanfu Shou source, now extinct due to the Three Gorges Reservoir), and Jiangjin (critically endangered). The planting areas in Sichuan and Chongqing are mostly distributed in hilly areas with altitudes ranging from 200 to 800 meters, particularly at the tops of hills. The origin of new varieties is in Liangping, Chongqing, and currently, planting bases for medicinal finger citrons have been established in some districts and counties in Chongqing, as well as in Leshan, Nanchong, Bazhong, and Ziyang in Sichuan. However, the actual planting areas are not large, and "Chuanfu Shou" is considered the superior choice for medicine. Additionally, there are also small amounts of planting in Yunnan and Fujian provinces.

After years of exploration and experimentation, the value of finger citron products has become increasingly evident, and a new understanding of the development of the finger citron industry has emerged. Deep processing of finger citron as raw material can produce finger citron beverages, finger citron oil, finger citron wine, jam, dried fruits, candied fruits, and fruit pectin, among other products, significantly boosting the added value of finger citron.
