Wuhan Chemical Mud | High Viscosity Chemical Mud | Auger Drilling Chemical Mud

In drilling engineering, hole flushing is an essential technique in drilling operations. During the drilling process, appropriate mud types are scientifically selected for flushing the borehole based on the actual strata encountered. This is to achieve the objectives of clearing the rock cuttings from the bottom of the hole, cooling the drill bit, lubricating the drilling tools, protecting the borehole walls, and enhancing drilling efficiency.

Drilling fluids play a crucial role in coalfield geological exploration and other industries, demanding stringent quality standards that have spurred rapid advancements in drilling fluid technology. After years of research and development and production experience, drilling fluids have evolved from merely satisfying drilling bit penetration to a comprehensive system catering to various needs. For instance, low-viscosity, low-friction, and low-solid polymer drilling fluids for rapid drilling, anti-clogging drilling fluids, anti-caving drilling fluids tailored to rock characteristics, and saturated saltwater drilling fluids for drilling salt beds, among others, have formed a relatively complete drilling fluid system. Today's drilling fluids are no longer simply a mixture of a few materials (e.g., bentonite, caustic soda), and maintaining their performance relies on the addition of various additives.

Our chemical drilling muds enhance drill bit lifespan, reduce the number of tripping operations, shorten drilling cycles, lower drilling costs, and improve drilling efficiency. They also offer the advantages of easy preparation, low cost, and minimal usage.

I. The Function of Mud

Mud, also known as drilling fluid or wash fluid, is metaphorically referred to as the "blood" of drilling. If the mud stops circulating, drilling operations cannot proceed normally.

1. Cleaning the Bottom Hole: The mud can form a high-speed fluid flow at the drill bit water holes, jetting towards the bottom of the well. This high-speed mud jet can dislodge rock cuttings held at the bottom of the well due to the difference in mud pressure and formation pressure, effectively cleaning the bottom hole.

2. Carrying Rock Cuttings: When the return speed of the drilling mud in the annulus exceeds the sedimentation speed of the rock cuttings, the mud can carry the cuttings out. In other words, at certain return speeds, the mud has the function of carrying rock cuttings.

3. Balancing Formation Pressure: The hydrostatic pressure of the mud column must be balanced with the formation pressure to prevent blowouts or excessive mud from leaking into the formation. This can be achieved by adjusting the mud density to control the hydrostatic pressure of the mud column, thereby balancing it with the formation pressure and preventing blowouts and leaks.

4. Cooling and Lubricating Drill Bits: The drilling mud carries away the heat generated by the friction between drilling tools (drill bit and drill string) and the formation to the surface, serving as a cooling agent. At the same time, the mud effectively reduces friction between the drilling tools and the formation, acting as a lubricant.
