Compaction constructionFor crawler paver operators, a common issue is the chain breakage of their equipment. Chain failure is inevitable occasionally, as the working environment is often harsh, with soil or stones potentially causing the chains to break. If the equipment frequently breaks its chains, it's necessary to find the cause, as chain breakage in pavers can easily lead to accidents.

What are the causes of a track chain coming off?

Today, let's briefly discuss common reasons for decoupling.

In reality, there are many reasons for the belt derailment. Besides the drill machine getting stuck in soil or stones and other impurities that can lead to the belt derailing, issues like the walking gear ring, derailment wheel, and chain guard locally can also cause the derailment. Additionally, improper operation can lead to the drill machine's belt derailing.

The tension cylinder issue caused a chain disengagement. At this moment, it is advisable to check if the tension cylinder has forgotten to apply grease and see if there are any signs of oil leakage.

2. Severe track wear leading to chain disengagement. If used over a long period, the tracks will inevitably experience wear, and the wear on components like the track links and link sleeves will also cause the track to disengage.

3. Chain Sprocket Wear Leading to Chain Breakage. Nowadays, virtually all drill rig tracks are equipped with chain guards, which play a crucial role in preventing chain breakage. Therefore, it is also very important to inspect for wear on the chain guards.

4. Chain derailment due to wear on the drive motor sprocket. In terms of the drive motor sprocket, if the wear is severe, we need to replace it. This is also a significant cause of the drill's chain derailment.

5. Chain Sprocket Damage Leading to a Chain Breakage. Generally, a leak in the oil seal of the chain sprocket results in severe wear on the sprocket, which can ultimately lead to a track chain breakage.

6. Chain Disengagement Due to Guide Wheel Damage. When inspecting the guide wheel, ensure that the screws on top are intact and not cracked. Check if the slot that secures the guide wheel is deformed.

How to Prevent Track Chains from Derailing?

When walking on the construction site, please position the walking motor at the rear to minimize pressure on the sprocket wheel.

2. Machines should not be in continuous operation for more than 2 hours; efforts should be made to minimize walking time on the construction site. If necessary, it is recommended to take short breaks before continuing to walk.

When walking, avoid obstacles that are elevated and solid to prevent the formation of stress concentrations in the track chain.

4. Ensure the correct tension of the tracks. Adjust them to be tighter in soft ground like mud, and looser when walking on stones. Over-tightening or over-loosening the tracks is detrimental; too loose can cause slight derailing, and too tight can lead to rapid wear on the chain sleeve.

5. Regularly check for any debris, like stones, that may be caught in the tracks, and clean them up if found.

6. On muddy construction sites, it's often necessary to rev the engine to dislodge the accumulated mud inside the tracks.

7. Operators of compaction equipment must regularly inspect the rail guard and the welded rail guard beneath the guide wheel.
