Generally, different technical requirements should be specified for the allowable deviations in steel pipe dimensions, surface quality, chemical composition, mechanical properties, process properties, and other special properties, depending on the pipe's intended use and working conditions.
General seamless steel pipes, used for conveying various fluids such as water, gas, and oil, and in the manufacture of various structural components, should undergo sampling tests for their mechanical properties, including tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. Transmission pipes typically operate under pressure and require hydrostatic testing, as well as tests for expansion, flattening, and rolling edge processes. For large-scale long-distance pipelines transporting crude oil, finished oil, and natural gas, additional requirements are imposed, such as carbon equivalent, welding properties, low-temperature impact toughness, stress corrosion under severe corrosion conditions, corrosion fatigue, and strength in corrosive environments.
