The quality factor of inductors is related to factors such as the DC resistance of the coil wire, the dielectric loss of the coil frame, and losses from the iron core, shielding cover, etc. Distributed capacitance refers to the capacitance between turns within the coil, between the coil and the magnetic core, between the coil and ground, and between the coil and metal. The smaller the distributed capacitance of an inductor, the better its stability. Distributed capacitance can increase the equivalent energy loss resistance, which is beneficial for molded inductors, increasing the quality factor. To reduce distributed capacitance, wire-wound or multi-strand varnished copper wire is commonly used, and sometimes honeycomb winding methods are also employed.


Beads are used to absorb ultra-high frequency signals, such as in RF circuits, PLLs, oscillator circuits, and circuits containing ultra-high frequency memory circuits (DDRSDRAM, Rambus, etc.), which all require the addition of beads at the power input section. Inductors, on the other hand, are energy storage elements used in LC oscillator circuits and medium-to-low frequency filter circuits, with their application frequency range rarely exceeding 50MHz. Inductors are generally used for circuit matching and signal quality control, as well as for ground and power connections. Beads are used where analog and digital grounds converge. Beads are also employed on signal lines.


When two inductor coils are close to each other, the price of a one-piece molded inductor, the magnetic field change of one inductor coil will affect the other inductor coil, and this effect is called mutual induction. The magnitude of mutual induction depends on the self-inductance of the inductor coils and the degree of coupling between them. The components made using this principle are called transformers. Common types of inductors can be made by winding conductive material around a magnetic core, typically with copper wire, or the core can be removed or replaced with ferromagnetic material. Core materials with a magnetic permeability higher than air can confine the magnetic field more tightly around the inductor element, thereby increasing the inductance. Inductors come in many varieties, most are made by wrapping an enamel coated wire around a ferrite core, while some protective inductors place the coil completely within the ferrite.
