This instrument primarily tests the thermal resistance of thin thermal conductors, thermal conductive silicone sheets, thermal conductive resins, beryllium oxide ceramics, and aluminum oxide ceramics, as well as the contact thermal resistance at solid interfaces and the thermal conductivity of the materials. The materials to be tested are generally in solid, sheet form, and can also detect powdered and paste-like materials when enclosed in a frame.
