Traditional river sand and other resources, in the process of extraction and transportation, not only consume a large amount of resources but also cause severe environmental damage. Therefore, manufactured sand, as a new type of building material, has emerged to meet construction needs while considering both environmental protection and economic factors. Manufactured sand is produced through special equipment, featuring uniform particle shape and size, smooth surfaces, and free of impurities, making it a good building material. Compared to river sand, the production process of manufactured sand is more environmentally friendly, as it does not generate a large amount of dust and wastewater pollution. Moreover, the production cost of manufactured sand is relatively lower, which can reduce the total cost of construction projects. Despite its many advantages, we cannot overlook the issues associated with manufactured sand. On one hand, the production of manufactured sand requires a significant amount of energy, which could lead to increased energy consumption. On the other hand, due to the uniform particle shape and size, the strength of manufactured sand may not be as strong as river sand, which could pose certain challenges for some special construction projects. Overall, as a new type of building material, manufactured sand offers both environmental benefits and economic advantages. In the future, we need to further research how to improve the quality and performance of manufactured sand to meet the needs of various construction projects.
