Pure dolomite is milky white, but may sometimes be gray-green, earthy yellow, pink, etc., due to impurities and residues, with a glassy luster. The three rhomboidal crystal axes are completely isometric, and it is brittle. The Mohs hardness ranges from 3.5 to 4, with a specific gravity of 2.8 to 2.9. The mineral powder reacts slowly with dilute cold sulfuric acid.

This results in a high-density structure with strong resistance to water solubility and a refractory temperature of up to 2300°C.

Following this, dolomite deposits in the Sinian and Cambrian systems are also very common, with large and medium-sized deposits found in places like Sakhalin Island, Jidong, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shaanxi, and Jiangsu Province. Dolomite deposits in the Carboniferous and Permian systems are mostly scattered in Hubei Province, Hunan Province, Guangxi Province, Guizhou Province, and other areas.
