Ningbo University is a newly emerged comprehensive local university that has grown in the wake of China's reform and opening-up. It is a national-level university jointly established by Zhejiang Province, the Ministry of Education, and the City of Ningbo, as well as a co-built institution with the State Oceanic Administration and the City of Ningbo. It is a key university for Zhejiang Province's construction. Founded in 1986 with donations from the late Mr. Y. K. Pao, the world-renowned ship magnate, and named by Comrade Deng Xiaoping. Its comprehensive strength has placed it among the top 100 universities in China.
