In remote areas where the electrical grid is inaccessible and the cost of diesel generators is exorbitant, electricity has always been a challenge. Although solar power technology has addressed some issues, there are still mountainous regions in need of more convenient and sustainable power solutions. Wind, as a natural energy source, is virtually limitless and inexhaustible if effectively utilized.

Permanent magnet brushless DC motors are gaining prominence as crucial mechanical-electrical conversion equipment in wind power generation applications due to their simple speed control and high efficiency. However, brushless DC motors typically rely on Hall sensors for critical rotor position information, which not only raises costs but also reduces the reliability of motor operation. Moreover, current position sensorless drive technologies are all subject to commutation errors, which can increase motor losses, lower system efficiency, and, in severe cases, cause the motor to run out of step.

Devo Electric's wind turbine generator controller primarily controls permanent magnet brushless DC motors. After analyzing the causes of generator commutation errors during wind speed changes, a high-performance control algorithm for brushless DC generators was developed. It captures the commutation intervals, compensates for error times, and adjusts signal delay angles in a timely manner to automatically correct the position signal phase. After optimization of this control algorithm, Devo's wind turbine generator controller enables the generator to commutate at the ideal commutation point, significantly enhancing the generator's operational performance.
