Section EN 60204 applies to electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic equipment and systems used in machinery that cannot be hand-carried during operation, including a set of machines working in a coordinated manner.

Note 1: This part of EN 60204 is an application standard, not intended to limit or suppress technological progress.

Note 2: In this part of EN 60204, the term "electrical" includes electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic substances (i.e., "electrical equipment," referring to electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic devices).

Note 3: In the context of this part of EN 60204, the term "person" refers to any individual, including any personnel designated and instructed by the user or their agent during the use and maintenance of the relevant machinery.

The equipment covered by EN 60204 starts at the connection point between the power supply and the electrical equipment of the machine (see 5.1).

Note 4: The EN 60364 series provides requirements for power installation.

This part of EN 60204 applies to electrical equipment or components thereof, where the nominal supply voltage does not exceed 1000 V (AC), 1500 V (DC), and the nominal supply frequency does not exceed 200 Hz.

Note 5: EN 60204-11 provides information on electrical equipment or components thereof, which have a higher rated supply voltage.

This part of EN 60204 does not cover all requirements specified or required by other standards or regulations (such as protection, interlocking, or control) to safeguard personnel from hazards beyond electrical dangers. Each type of machine has unique requirements to ensure adequate safety.

This part of EN 60204 specifically includes, but is not limited to, electrical equipment of machines as defined in Section 3.1.40.

Note 6: Appendix C lists examples of machines with electrical equipment covered by this part of EN 60204.

This part of EN 60204 does not specify additional and special requirements applicable to electrical equipment of machinery, such as:

- For outdoor use (i.e., outside of buildings or other protective structures)

- The use, processing, or production of potentially explosive materials (e.g., paint or sawdust).

- Suitable for potentially explosive and/or flammable environments;

Special risks are associated with the production or use of certain materials.

Intended for use in mines.

Sewing machines, equipment, and systems (covered by EN 60204-31).

- Is craning equipment (covered under EN 60204-32).

Semiconductor manufacturing equipment (covered under EN 60204-33).

This part of EN 60204 does not include power circuits that directly use electrical energy as the power source for the working tool.
